Billboard premiered Smooth from Elliot James Mulhern exclusively this afternoon. The new single, mastered by Frank Arkwright (Oasis, Coldplay, Blur) at Abbey Road Studios and upcoming album ALWAYS LATELY was announced and currently available for Pre-Order on Vinyl, CD and Pre-Save digitally on AppleMusic + Spotify.

Billboard.com & Billboard Pop exclusive featured spotlight carosuel alongside Ariana Grande, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez.

“‘Smooth’ is the first song I wrote for ALWAYS LATELY. It’s about betrayal (in a deeply affectionate way) and getting your frustrations in order, but letting them drive qualities of yourself you love the most,” James explains to Billboard. “The choir at the beginning of the song is an iPhone voice memo of my parents’ choir at Christmas — it gives me chills every time.”

UK’s Born Music featured the new single and music video Fiend from Elliot James. The music video directed by Joseph Mercado originally premiered on AppleMusic.

This is singer-songwriter music taken to it’s most minimal extreme. A song that is made up of few constituent parts (synth pad, acoustic guitar and vocals), the song is almost mist like, having an almost air like quality. Like sitting on a cloud, ‘Fiend’ is sensual, beautiful, and at times quite harrowing.

Elliot James here has proved himself to be a masterful songwriter. Quite like Frank Ocean’s ‘Blond(e)’, James has chosen the ‘less is more’ approach on this latest single, and that choice is a huge success.

The accompanying music video is also understated. Starring Natalie Eleftheriadis, this one shot video is emotional and quite heartbreaking. Eleftheriadis emotion is palpable, and gives the song an added kick of soul and feeling. – excerpt from Born Music review

Yesterday Jallal premiered his new song Toss & Turn featuring Ne-Yo.

“The 23-year-old LA native has steadily built both and underground and digital fan base by touring with the likes of Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco and mentor Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), garnering him over 40 million streams combined thus far” said Vibe.com on the songs release.

Toss & Turn premiered on RapUp and was produced by Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, Elliot James and Jan Fairchild.
